Welcome to The Photo Frontier. We are fired up you are here! This is a great place to learn what The Photo Frontier is all about and begin enriching your life through photography. If you have any questions or comments…
We are a fellowship of explorers, guided by creative principles, who believe that photography can enrich their lives and the lives of others.
The Photo Frontier was founded by Justin Balog (left) and Armando Martinez (right). They set out to create a unique photographic experience and Fellowship of Explorers that is free of negative criticism and full of positive inspiration.
Photography is so much more than the photograph. For 30 years, photography has enriched my life by introducing me to new friends and experiences. When Armando and I set out to create The Photo Frontier, we started with the idea of Fellowship and Creative Experience. That’s what photography has always been for us and that is exactly what we want The Photo Frontier to be for you. -Justin Balog
Bylaws of the Frontier
With these ideals in mind, The Photo Frontier’s bylaws were forged, the Fellowship was formed and unique learning experiences were created. Each of them with the goal of helping photographers, of any background, enrich their life and the lives of those around them. Whether you are just beginning your creative journey with a mobile phone, or remember the glory days of film, The Photo Frontier and The Fellowship of Creative Explorers has a place for you.
Respect and encourage one another.
All cameras are welcome.
Live a creative life!
If you share these beliefs…
‘Photo Jamborees’ are a gathering of photographers celebrating creativity and fellowship. The Jamboree is similar to a photo-walk, however unlike the photo-walk, the photo jamboree has unique traditions and totems, as well as a designated Jamboree Host. All photo jamborees start with a place to meet and they end with the exchange of stories and good will. Somewhere in the middle everyone has a great time making photographs.
‘Photo Expeditions’ are planned adventures, either individually or as an expedition team, with the intent of conducting creative research, creating unique life experiences and exploring the Photo Frontier. For years Armando and Justin have ventured out to the Frontier with a single objective, make photographs. Over the years, these adventures developed unique traditions, totems, playlists and typologies. After returning from the field, the photographs, lessons and all the relevant information was compiled into official field reports. It was from these adventures, and their supporting documentation, that the ‘Photo Expedition’ was born.
Here at The Photo Frontier, we don’t do reviews. You’ll never see and MTF chart or a photograph of a brick wall. We share real world information about stuff we like. That’s why we call them ‘Fan Clubs’. If you see it here, we use it and we like it.
Artisans of the Frontier
We are constantly seeking out new and unique Artisans who are #ExploringTheFrontier. When we find them, we ask them to share their creative wisdom with us. Thanks to all the Artisans who have taken the time to enrich our lives with their talent, vision and generosity. If you know of an Artisan you’d like to see featured, let us know!
Well, that about covers it. If you share the belief that photography can enrich your life and the lives of others, and you would like to be part of an all inclusive fellowship founded on creative inspiration….
