Everyone is invited to join us on Feb 16th to conduct creative research and create a global visual survey. Armando and I thought it was about time to have a global photographic event that could bring us all a little closer together. The idea is simple, on Feb 16th share images from your hometown or city and tag them #ExpeditionCityStreets
We hope that this survey will show the world that we all share a part of.
- What: A Global Fellowship Expedition featuring the street photography from your hometown!
- When: Feb 16th (All Day)
- Where: Your City!
Note: Please share this event with your friends, the more cities represented the better! If you’d like to follow Armando and I as we explore the streets of Denver, you can join us on Periscope (@PhotoFrontier) or Instagram (@JustinBalog | @MandoMatic ).
Share Your Research: Please share your own Instagram/Twitter feeds in the comments below so all those that are conducting research can join you. Make sure to use the HashTag #ExpeditionCityStreets (you can also use our community tag #ExploringTheFrontier )
If you’re city isn’t represented, let us know and we will update the map.
5 Tips To Get You Started
Leverage Light & Shadow – Light and shadows make for some fine framing elements so make sure to use them to your advantage. With that being said, it’s a good idea to get an early start. Morning light, raking through the streets while commuters make there way to the office, is prime time for street photography.
Gesture – It’s all about moment. When you bring your camera to your eye, continue to survey the scene and wait for the moment, the gesture to unfold before you. Another technique is to set your camera to stun (i.e. burst mode) and make a bunch of frames.
Bad Weather Makes Great Photos – Don’t let a little rain ruin your creative research. Nope, use it to your advantage. Along with rain comes reflections and even exposures.
Meet People – Street photography is largely about people so don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation. You’ll come away with a great portrait and interesting story.
Set The Stage and Wait – It will take some patience, however, when you find a brilliant stage, hang out and wait for the moment to present itself.
