#WE35 is a global visual survey and creative research project conducted by explorers from around the world. The goal of #WE35 is to push your creative boundaries, share in each other’s artistic development, and forge friendships that will last a lifetime. All of this, using nothing more than a single 35mm lens. We will achieve this goal through monthly assignments designed to expand your creativity like never before, foster an encouraging community where we can discuss one another’s work and provide opportunities for critiques and constructive feedback.
If you’re looking to expand your photographic boundaries, share a creative adventure with like-minded explorers, inspire and be inspired, and learn new skills and techniques for living a creative life become a #WE35 Explorer Today!
There are three goals for the project….
- As creatives, we will expand our own creative vision and help others with theirs.
- As photographers, we will provide a democratized visual survey of this incredible world.
- As a team, we will forge life long friendships and build a strong community around the world. The kind of community that you can count on when you visit and have a friend to photograph with or grab a coffee.
Monthly Expeditions & Podcast
Every month we will be setting out on expeditions and sharing our findings. The Expeditions will be announced on our podcast “Conversations From The Photo Frontier”. If you’re a #We35 Explorer (not an explorer yet? join here), then we will discuss our creative discoveries in our private Facebook community, as well as, participating in live Facebook events. However, if you’d just like to conduct your own research and don’t want to become an official team member, simply subscribe to the podcast where we announce the monthly expeditions and share your work with the hash tag #We35.
Official #We35 Explorer Patch
If you’re a #We35 Explorer, you will receive the official patch. Make sure to hang it on your camera bag so other team members will be able to identify you in the field.
Societal law requires projects and official records to include a hashtag. Ours will be #We35
- Images must be made using a 35mm lens or 35mm FOV equivalent.
- Use the official hashtag ( #WE35) to share your research.
- If you want to to link to your research, share it on our Facebook Page
- Not a requirement, but you will get bonus points if you conduct your research wearing a lab coat.
If you don’t currently have a 35mm lens (or equivalent), and would like to participate in the project, we’ve put together a quick guide of some gear we recommend. Also, if you’re a mobile photographer, no problem. Just adjust your zoom to a 35mm equivalent and use it for the project. Same goes for folks who have a telephoto lens, set it a 35mm and tape it in place! If you’re using a DX camera, then you’ll need to use a 23mm lens (depending on your crop factor). If you’re looking for a prime lens, here you go!
